Patrick Cho

Kim Family

Hello, my name is Patrick Cho and I serve as the senior pastor at Lighthouse Bible Church. My wife Christine and I were married in October 2005, and we have one child, Eden Cassie, who was born in August 2008.
I grew up in a Christian home and have lived in San Diego almost my entire life. Although I accumulated a lot of knowledge about the Bible and a basic understanding of the facts of the gospel as a child, it was not until my early years of college that God graciously saved me. He helped me to realize that I was living purely for myself and had not surrendered my life to Christ’s lordship. I praise God for my salvation and now strive to live in the strength He provides all for His glory.
Some of my favorite hobbies include singing, playing guitar, cooking, and reading.
In 1999, I received a B.A. at the University of California in San Diego, where I majored in European History and minored in Philosophy. I also received an M.Div. from The Master’s Seminary in 2004. My high school friends used to say that I would be the most likely to become a pastor. I thought about it as far back as high school, but I decided to actually prayerfully pursue it while I was in college. During my third year at UCSD, I decided that there was nothing else that I desired to do. Although other career opportunities were presented to me, I felt the Lord’s call into ministry. Others in the church and in my family affirmed that they saw how God had gifted me to serve in this way, so after much prayer and consultation with various pastors, I submitted my application for seminary in the summer of 2000. By God’s grace and sovereignty, I served on staff at LBC throughout my seminary training.
I love Lighthouse! The people of LBC have always been very special to me. It is not common to find a congregation of believers so hungry for God’s Word and so sacrificial in their ministerial service. Those who visit the church often comment on how warm and friendly the people are, and others are encouraged by the family atmosphere that characterizes the fellowship. The weekly teaching from the Word is also something that stands out about LBC because it is a commitment to God’s truth that drives our overall ministry. The church is aware of our desire to uphold a high view of God and a high view of God’s Word, and the leadership is aware that the equipping of the saints will only be accomplished by the dedicated teaching of the Bible. I am thankful that Lighthouse is a church that can be characterized by its uncompromising commitment to the Word of God and its genuinely loving fellowship.

I was born and raised in the Inland Empire (heard of it?), but have been in SD and at LBC for 8 years now to do my undergraduate and medical school studies at UCSD. I’m currently a 4th year medical student and am in the midst of applying for residencies. I absolutely love music (listen to pretty much every genre of music minus screamo and death metal, and I play the drums and cello). I also am a huge fan of LA Sports franchises (especially the Kings, who play a sport called hockey). I love Jesus Christ and the Gospel, which is the source of my happiness and love for people.

Hello! I graduated UCSD in 2008 with a B.S. in Computer Science and currently work as a Software Engineer at Novatel Wireless. I enjoy playing tennis and making music in my leisure. I’ve been attending Lighthouse Bible Church for 4 years now and have grown much in my knowledge of and love for God since my salvation in 2005. I grew up in LA and its suburbs (Walnut/Diamond Bar area) and moved down to San Diego in 2005 after undergraduate school. I have attended LBC since 2006 and have grown so much from the biblically sound teaching and the fellowship in Christ with brothers and sisters who take their faith seriously. I was saved by the grace of God in 1998 at a youth retreat, when God illumined my heart not just for Christ to save me from my sins, but to the fact that He must be Lord over the entirety of my life. I am thankful to be on staff in our Singles ministry at LBC. It is my humble privilege to come alongside my peers to make known the name and glory of God in Christ Jesus our Lord, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Kim Family

John: I am so excited to serve the single adults of Lighthouse as God has been so gracious to provide me with the privilege of helping provide direction and teaching to those who are going through the many challenges that single life presents. I know that there are many of you who come from all walks of life and different kinds of backgrounds so while there is no singular profile that everyone fits here, there is one way which does meet everyone and that is our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life and is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). So all are welcome to join us as we seek the Lord together through studying His Word and building God-honoring relationships through Christ-centered and Spirit-filled fellowship.

While I also serve at the senior pastor of the church, I am particularly grateful for the chance to minister to the single adults along with my wife Angela, who also has a tremendous heart for ministry ever since we first met at UCLA back in college days and have served the Lord together ever since we got married in 1989. Along with our four precious daughters (Jenna – age 15, Kara – age 12, Alyssa – age 8, and Olivia – age 2), we count it an honor to be here for you and hope that we will have the chance to greet you in the name of Christ.

Angela: I’m happily married to John and mother to our four daughters, ages 17, 14, 10, and 4. After trusting Jesus Christ as my Savior & Lord as a young collegian, life has been one exciting adventure after another. I’m so thankful to God for including me in His kingdom plan to share His gospel and love to people around me. Other than my priority job of taking care of my family and home, I enjoy working with the women of Lighthouse. It is my privilege to be ministering in SingleLife alongside a wonderful team of servants. I look forward to getting to know and to serving you all this year!

Joyce Kim

Hi.  My name is Joyce Kim (also known as “kaj”).  In His sovereign plan, God brought me to Lighthouse Bible Church in Fall of 2002, which is when I moved down to San Diego to attend UCSD. He graciously allowed me to hear the Gospel message and granted me the understanding of it during my first year at this church.  Since then, it has been a tremendous joy (though hard always) living my life knowing God.  I am grateful and stoked! for the opportunity to serve God specifically in Singles Ministry.  I studied General Biology at UCSD and currently am working at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla as a Nuc Med Assistant and a ER Tech.  I love to hang out with people, hear how God’s been working in their lives, and also enjoy together God’s blessings like… steak… and… sashimi…

Jesus Christ saved me from my sins when I was a freshman in college. God led me to Lighthouse soon after I moved to San Diego to start medical school in 2003.  I loved it here so much that I took an extra year to finish medical school, and now am working as a resident at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla.  Through the good times and the bad, I’ve been continuously reminded by my church family to find joy in living for God’s glory.  I am thrilled to serve on staff because I love God and want to encourage you to love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind (Matt 22:37-40). In my spare time, I play basketball and tennis, so let’s play!   Last but not least, I am currently engaged to the lovely and godly Maria Oh (see below), whom I hope you will get to know as well!

Chris Lim

Hello, my name is Chris Lim and I am ready to run the Christ-servant life with you.
My primary role as part of the Shepherding Ministry is to point others to Christ and the Gospel. My personal goal is to have every person within the Singles Ministry over at my home for a delicious home-cooked meal. Plus, I want to know how I can encourage you to love Christ more. And yes, I do like to run… ;-)

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Hello everyone! I’ve lived in the San Diego area for over fifteen years, God having both saved me and brought me to Lighthouse during that time. Currently, I work as a Software Developer at a small company in North County. I’ve participated in the LBC Singles’ ministry since 2005 and have had the pleasure of ministering to our singles and alongside the Single Life staff since 2008. I look forward to seeing God work through our church and this ministry, in particular, and hope to see many graduates (of Single Life) in the coming years.

I recently married Peter Park, so it hasn’t been too long since I have moved on from the singles ministry. I have decided to come back and serve you in the single adults ministry because I really enjoyed my single years of life in maximizing my time for the glory of God and desire to pass that perspective on to you. I look forward to come alongside you and invest in your life, that you would come to know Jesus, deepen in your love for Christ, and cultivate your fear of the Lord. It is my desire to encourage the singles of Lighthouse to carry the gospel to their schools, homes, work places, and families so that Christ will be exalted. I currently work through the night as a registered nurse at Kaiser Permanente. On my free days and nights, I enjoy playing sports (football specifically) on an open grass field, being with my family, and making cards. I hope to run this Christian race with persevere alongside you so that Christ is magnified.

I’m excited about this opportunity to join the single’s staff. I have been with Lighthouse Bible Church for a little over ten years now. I am happily married to Joyce who has been with our church for the past 7 years now. I am originally from L.A. and I studied Electrical Engineering while I was a student at UCSD. I have a great passion for God and music, and I have been given the opportunity to lead the praise team on Friday nights. On my free time, I love playing basketball with my friends and singing songs. It has been such a great blessing to watch our church grow for the last ten years, but our time here is limited as my wife and I are planning on moving up to San Jose to help with the church plant.

I originally moved to San Diego to attend UCSD in 1999, and decided to stick around after I graduated in 2003 with a BA in Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts, and minors in both Literature and Cognitive Science. Since then, I have completed my MBA from SDSU, and have been working for full-time for Sony the past six years.
I’ve attended LBC since 2005 when God providentially brought me here after living in India for some time. Prior to that I attended Grace Community Church, where I grew up listening to the preaching of John MacArthur for about 20 years. I’m currently also the ministry coordinator for the Beacon (LBC’s newsletter).
I hope to see my brothers and sisters here at LBC grow in their knowledge of the Scriptures and their love for their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Whatever small way I can serve to further that end is a matter of importance to me.

Hi! Single’s ministry. My name is Tim and I’m glad to be part of single staff again. I was married last year to my lovely wife, Leah, in which we are also eagerly expecting our baby girl due early 2010. It has been exciting walking with the Lord all these years, as he has faithfully see me through many trials and circumstances. Moreover, I was fortunate enough to have Godly parents who came along side me, as well as many brothers and sisters over the years, whom God has place at the right season to minister and encourage me to grow. I believe there are a few things God has really placed upon my heart, and that is to have a passion for missions, to encourage the next generation to grow and lead, and lastly to strive to be a spiritual leader for my family. Thus, it is my hope that I can be an instrument in which God uses me to edify and encourage the single’s ministry; through my own walk and experiences to minister to you all. Please just come and talk to me, as I am very approachable and hope we can strive and grow together in Christ!

I am really excited to serve on singles staff this upcoming year! Ever since I became a Christian in college, I have been encouraged to see the power of the gospel transform my own life as well as the lives of others. As a follower of Jesus Christ and a recipient of His grace, I long to see others experience the same love, joy and mercy that can only be found in Him. Not only am I thankful to be saved from my sins, but I count it a great privilege to be used as an instrument in His ongoing kingdom work. While many of my hours during the week are spent working in a hospital as a medical resident, my greatest joy is to be with the people of His church and to be able to share my life with those who are part of the singles ministry.

Since then, I’ve moved back to San Diego. I got married to my lovely wife in March 2007. I work at Nokia testing cell phone software. God will mature you and me as we study the Holy Spirit this year. I am humbled by God’s day to day grace and mercy in addition to the His love in my salvation. I first heard the gospel when I was 8 years old but it took a few years for me to truly repent of my sin, believe that He saved me and truly surrender my life to God. For details, please ask me when you see me. ^-^
